A Georgia woman who received a presidential pardon last month has a Kinston native to thank.
Helen Alexander Gray, of Ty Ty, Ga., was sentenced to 20 years in prison in April 1996 after being convicted with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Now, she will be released on April 17, due to the president’s commutation.
Garry Jones, the founder of Advocate4Justice and a Kinston native, said he had been trying to help Hunt gain clemency for years. He said President Barack Obama did the right thing in pardoning Gray and 20 others on Dec. 19. (full story here)
